New energy efficient condos planned for Brush Park

McIntosh Poris Associates designed the Kelemen’s residence, a multi-family housing project in the Brush Park neighborhood.

“Kelemen, who’s originally from Germany, wants to incorporate energy efficient elements to the design, which will also help sound-proof each unit.”

The Kelemen’s were familiar with the Passive Haus (Passive House) design standard that originated from Germany and is now being applied to projects all over the world including the US. This standard places emphasis on the reduction of heating/cooling demand by creating extremely well insulated walls and sealed window and door openings. This was achieved with the decision of using ICF wall construction for the exterior walls and installing triple-pane windows with thermally broken connection details.
