A Famous Mies van der Rohe Development Gets its First New Building in 4 Decades

Lafayette Park just got a major addition. The new development is named DuCharme Place, and was designed by Detroit-based firm McIntosh Poris Associates. It comprises 185 units in four low-level buildings whose design pays homage to concepts first employed by Van der Rohe. The majority of DuCharme Place is realized in a palette of brick, metal, and glass, and its overall layout is reminiscent of the legendary architect’s original vision. “DuCharme Place builds upon the vision of the park’s original development team by creating a community integrated with nature to support the existing historic district,” Michael Poris, principal of McIntosh Poris Associates, told The Architect’s Newspaper.
